Posture

"Back in the day" children were taught to walk around school with a book placed upon their head and were forever being told to "sit up straight". Later in life young men would do there national service and were taught to march correctly, stand to attention and so on. In this modern era - who teaches correct posture?

More often than not it will be down to the parents (with a little help from their teachers) to teach their child how to stand, sit and walk correctly. There are so many musculoskeletal pains and problems which can be as a direct cause of bad posture.

Some of the more common problems are Low back pain / Shoulder impingements / Plantar fasciitis / Headaches / Knee pain.

Perfect or Correct posture is a myth because everybody is different. However there are certain standing postures that every parent can look out for to prevent a child or teenager developing musculo-skeletal problems in later life. Also Adults can look at their own posture in the mirror and see if any of these apply to themselves .

Extreme versions of these postures can be easily spotted but it takes a trained eye to identify and correct the milder ones.
